Sunset Zoo is an AZA accredited zoo with more than 398 animals, including chimpanzees, warthogs, Siberian tigers, snow leopards, red pandas, and bald eagles. The popular habitat immersion exhibits allow guests to “walk among” a variety of species.

Milford Reservoir, a 30-minute drive west of Manhattan, is Kansas’ largest lake, with 163 miles of shoreline and over 16,000 surface areas. Milford Lake and the surrounding 21,000 acres make up one of Kansas’ prime outdoor habitats. Enjoy native and red cedars as you walk along 10 miles of trails. Known as the “Lake of Blue Water,” it is one of the more scenic Kansas lakes. A great location for sailing or water sports. The Konza Prairie Biological Station is an 8,600-acre tallgrass prairie preserve owned by The Nature Conservancy and Kansas State University. Three public hiking trails, open from dawn to dusk, are located near the main entrance to Konza Prairie on McDowell Creek Road. In addition to flint, invertebrate fossils, native grasses, and wildflowers, hikers can see deer, coyotes, turkeys, bats, or other wildlife.
More then 108,000 acres of public hunting land in Manhattan are free and open to licensed hunters during regular game seasons. Most Kansas land is privately owned and owner permission is required before hunters enter. With approximately 350,000 acres of standing and flowing water, Kansas is one of the best-kept fishing secrets in the country. Area lakes are filled with catfish, walleye, suageye, crappie, bass, bluegill, wipers, and rainbow trout, just to name a few.

If you have a green thumb, then rent a plot at the Community Gardens through University for Man. Rental fees are based on income; usually around $12.50 per plot for students.
