What does S.O.K.S. stand
for?
Significant Others of Kansas State
Veterinary Students (Auxiliary to the Kansas State University
Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association)
Purpose Statement
The purpose of S.O.K.S. is to provide
support and encouragement to veterinary couples and to promote
the veterinary profession, through social activities,
fundraisers, community service and cooperation with the AVMA and
it's auxiliaries.
S.O.K.S. ORIENTATION
(During Freshman Orientation)
Our first opportunity to orient the significant other and the
student to the vet school and the city of Manhattan, is through
this handbook. We have provided you with email addresses for all
of our officers, please feel free to contact us with any
questions you may have prior to your move to Kansas. During the
KSUCVM Orientation, we will provide the significant others an
opportunity to meet and greet members of the group as well as
provide a question and answer session.
S.O.K.S. MEETINGS
Meetings are normally held on the first Thursday of every month
to discuss upcoming events, activities and fundraisers. In
addition to regular monthly meetings, additional meetings may be
scheduled for project committees and officers on a night most
convenient to the members. Meetings are a great opportunity to
get to know other significant others of the vet students, as
well as talk about numerous topics affecting us or our students.
We regularly have guest speakers at our meetings such as the
school counselor, faculty and staff, and financial aid advisors
to help us be more involved in what our student is participating
in and what roles we can play. We also have a minimum of one
social event each month planned by the group for either
ourselves or with our students. These events include, but are
never limited to, games, movies, bowling, dinner, etc.
