To be nominated for an Active Membership the individual must be a veterinarian who has graduated at least two years ago and has been either a member of the faculty in the KSUCVM for at least one-year, or a graduate student at KSU for at least one year. In addition these individuals should have displayed ability of a high order in dealing with one or more phases of veterinary medicine. To be nominated for an Honorary Membership in Phi Zeta the individual must either be an alumnus/alumna of the KSUCVM having received the DVM degree at least 5 years ago and rendered distinguished service to the profession or a veterinarian or non-veterinarian who has rendered distinguished service in the advancement of the sciences relating to the animal industry and particularly of animal diseases. If you are eligible for membership, not yet a member, and would like to be nominated, please contact Dr. Cash (cash@vet.k-state.edu).
Annual Phi Zeta dues for 1999 are $10.00, and checks should be made out to Phi Zeta. If you do not pay your dues at this meeting, please either return the check to Wally Cash (TH 302A) or to the A&P Departmental office (VMS 228).
Phi Zeta Research Day is scheduled for March 16, 1999. Our guest speaker this year will be Dr. Phil Padrid, DVM (Cornell 1985), and ACVIM diplomat. He is on the faculty of the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine with joint appointments in Immunology and Comparative Medicine/Pathology. His research interests are in the area of pathophysiology of asthma, and more recently immune modulators and diabetes. He has a NIH research program looking at feline asthma as a model for atopic asthma. For more information see the Call for Abstracts.
