The Awards for presentations at the Phi Zeta Research Day were as follows (Range $50.00 - $150.00):
In Basic Science:
1st place,  Dr. Elizabeth Davis, Clinical Resident
2nd place, Dr. Guolong Zhang, Graduate Student in Diagnostic Medicine and Pathobiology
3rd place,  Dr. Sanjeevkumar Narayanan, Graduate Student in Diagnostic Medicine and Pathobiology
In Clinical Science:
1st place, Dr. Julie Fischer, Clinical Resident
2nd Place, Chris Kunze, Junior in the College of Veterinary Medicine
3rd Place, Dr. Michelle Wall, Clinical Intern
Clinical Case Report:
Jean Sonnenfield, Junior in the College of Veterinary Medicine

Dr. R. H. Spencer Memorial Award for a student from Kansas or Nebraska with an interest in large animal medicine and surgery:

Awards to Faculty members made or Announced at the Phi Zeta Banquet:
Pfizer Animal Health Award for Research Excellence ($1,000):
Dr. George Stewart, Associate Professor in the Department of Diagnostic Medicine and Pathobiology
The American Veterinary Medicine Foundation Bayer Excellence in Equine Research Award for the year 2000 was announced:
Dr. Howard Erickson, Professor in the Department of Anatomy and Physiology. The award will actually be made at a later date.
A special Phi Zeta recognition was given this year
to Dr. Jon Dunn to recognize his outstanding work in promoting scholarship and research and mentoring developing scientists in the Department of Anatomy and Physiology and in the College of Veterinary Medicine.
