K-State Hosts Lectures on Veterinary Medicine
Challenges and on Emerging Infections and Impact on Animals and Public
Health
Manhattan -- Two seminars covering challenges within
veterinary medicine education, and emerging infections in animals and
how they impact animals and public health are topics in the upcoming
Kansas State University Distinguished Lecture series.
Dr. Bennie I. Osburn will present "Veterinary
Educational Challenges in the 21st Century" Wednesday, Oct. 31, in the
Practice Management Center of Trotter Hall at 3 p.m.
Osburn's second presentation, "Emerging Infections:
Impacts on Animals and Public Health," will be Thursday, Nov. 1, in
Forum Hall of the K-State Student Union at 2 p.m. A discussion session
in Forum Hall will immediately follow Osburn's presentation.
Osburn earned a bachelor's degree in 1959 and a
doctorate of veterinary medicine in 1961 from Kansas State University.
An internationally recognized scientist and educator, he is dean of
the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of California,
Davis. Osburn's research focus is biotechnology immunology infectious
disease in bovines and ruminants, bluetongue virus and pre-harvest
food safety.
Both presentations are free and open to the public.
The seminars are sponsored by the Distinguished Lecture Committee and
the College of Veterinary Medicine.
