Dr. Frederick W. Oehme named the 2003 recipient
of The Society of Toxicology's Education Award
Dr. Frederick W. Oehme, a past president of The Society of
Toxicology, has been named the 2003 recipient of the Society's Education
Award. The Society of Toxicology is a international organization of
5,300 members devoted to the practice of academic, corporate, regulatory
and consulting toxicology. The Education Award is presented to an
individual who is distinguished by the teaching and training of
toxicologists, and who has made significant contributions to education
in the broad field of toxicology. Dr. Oehme proposed, organized and
presented the Society of Toxicology's 1st continuing education course in
1980. He chaired additional courses in 1981, 1987 and 2002. Continuing
education is presently a major part of the Society's annual meetings.
Dr. Oehme has mentored 61 MS and PhD students at Kansas State
University. He installed a 24 hour-7day information response center
providing information on chemical hazards, potential clinical
emergencies and environmental contamination in animals, wildlife, human
beings and the general environment. This career achievement award
reflects excellence in toxicology education and the Department of
Diagnostic Medicine/Pathobiology, the College of Veterinary Medicine and
Kansas State University.
