Pharmacist
The Kansas State University
Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (KSU-VMTH) invites applications for
an unclassified position of Pharmacist. This position offers the unique
opportunity to practice in an academic veterinary medical teaching
hospital, interact with faculty specialists, and assist with instruction
of professional students.
Candidates must hold a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or a Doctor of
Pharmacy degree from a program accredited by the American Council on
Pharmaceutical Education, plus a license granted by the Kansas State
Board of Pharmacy to practice in Kansas. Candidates with practical
experience dispensing veterinary pharmaceuticals, clinical experience in
a teaching hospital environment and experience in preparation and
dispensing chemotherapy will be given preference.
The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate leadership,
experience and expertise in daily management of a clinical veterinary
pharmacy, including planning and evaluating classified and student
employee activities. Activities include: Accurate preparation, labeling
and dispensing of pharmaceuticals including formulation of compounds;
Maintenance of the pharmacy module in the Hospital Information System (VetStar)
and the Automated Dispensing System (Pyxis); Maintenance of computer
records on pharmaceutical and supply inventory including inventory of
shipments, storage, pricing, vendor updates, state contract and sales
information; Compliance with federal regulations regarding Extra-Label
Drug Use, as outlined in the Animal Medicinal Drug Use Clarification
Act; Maintenance of controlled substance logs as required by the federal
and state Controlled Substance Acts; Coordination of training programs
for visiting pharmacy students enrolled in extern training programs;
Consultation with faculty, staff and clients. Manhattan, Kansas and
