Position Announcement
The College of Veterinary Medicine and the Graduate
School at Kansas State University is seeking a Full or Associate
Professor to serve as Director for the Master of Public Health (MPH)
Program, provide leadership for the advancement of the Program, and
contribute to scholarly activities. The MPH Program at Kansas State
University (http://www.k-state.edu/mphealth/index.htm)
is a collaborative, interdepartmental graduate degree-granting program.
Students select an emphasis in one of four areas that take advantage of
academic strengths at Kansas State University. Program Areas of Emphasis
are: 1) Food Safety, 2) Infectious Disease / Zoonoses 3) Human
Nutrition, and 4) Physical Activity.
The full-time, 12 month faculty
and Program Director position will begin as early as the fall of 2008.
The successful Director candidate must have an earned doctorate in a
related area (PhD, DrPH, DVM, MD, DDS, etc.), administrative experience,
and a broad understanding of the field of public health. An earned
Master of Public Health (MPH) or related professional degree (e.g. MSPH)
is desired. The Director will have an administrative home in the College
of Veterinary Medicine and will report directly to the head of the
department to which he/she is housed. Applicants with experience and a
proven track record of scholarly achievement will be considered for a
tenured or tenure-track appointment in one of the College of Veterinary
Medicine’s academic departments.
The successful candidate will
contribute his or her expertise to existing and growing
interdisciplinary public health emphasis areas throughout the
University. The Director must have outstanding oral and written
communication skills, experience with obtaining and managing funding,
and a demonstrated ability to relate positively and effectively with
colleagues and professional staff.
The Director will coordinate the
MPH Program’s application for accreditation by the Council on Education
for Public Health (CEPH) and will oversee all aspects of the program
including management of the support staff. Administrative support for
the position will be provided. The Director will provide programmatic
leadership through interactions with the Dean of the Graduate School and
the leadership of Colleges and Departments actively participating in the
MPH Program. As a faculty member, the Director also will actively
contribute to public health research and instruction.
