Interests and responsibilities

I serve as a Professor in the department of Diagnostic Medicine and Pathobiology, Director of the K-State Public Health Program, and the Dr. James B. Nichols Public Health Professorship in Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University. I completed a bachelor’s degree in Microbiology from University College Cork in Ireland, and then pursued my PhD at Creighton University in Nebraska. At Creighton University, I studied Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies, a group of infectious neurological diseases of humans and animals, including Chronic Wasting Disease in deer, elk and moose. My interests in infectious diseases led me to enroll in a Master of Public Health program at KUMC while completing post-doctoral training in HIV neuroinvasion. In my current role, I direct the Public Health program at K-State, teach Public Health, and support Kansas public health partners including the Flint Hills Wellness Coalition, the Kansas Public Health Workforce Development Coordinating Council, the Kansas Public Health Association, and County Health Departments of Kansas.
