Swamper's Story

September 24, 2004

Dear Dean Richardson:

We are writing to express our sincere appreciation for some of your very special staff members and students who recently helped our very frightened dog named "Swamper" survive his surgery and hospitalization there at K-State. Because our dog is afraid of strangers, he is a fear biter. We were not sure anyone would want to work with him. But, that was not even an issue at K-State's Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital! We simply can't thank you enough for having a staff so willing to work with all of us…no matter how temperamental!

Our dog was diagnosed with a ruptured cranial cruciate ligament. Dr. Roush and his team of "tibia tippers" went right to work. Already at less than 2 weeks out of surgery, our dog is feeling better than he has for months! We simply can't say enough nice things about giving such an expert surgeon and surgical team that could help fix our dog/special family member! Truthfully, we didn't think Swamper had much of a future, but Dr. Roush turned all that around!

Instrumental in Swamper's ability to survive his frightening stay at the hospital is one very special senior veterinary student, Brad Breon. He braved Swamper's aggressive demeanor and showed kindness and attention way above and beyond what any other hospital would have provided. Swamper did not come home traumatized in the least! Please express our keep appreciation to this young man who will very soon be such a wonderful veterinarian. He clearly has the compassion, skills and "quick reflexes" it takes to work with animals!

Again, our thanks to one and all there at the teaching hospital! Although we don't know all the staff members' names who provided such wonderful care, we are deeply, deeply grateful for all your help! Because of each and every one of you, Swamper now has a bright, bright future!!!
