The Spencer Veterinary Clinic is seeking an associate veterinarian for a mixed/predominantly large animal practice. The practice has steadily grown in recent years and is in need of an energetic individual to help provide exceptional service to its clients. Spencer, Nebraska, is a community of 550 people located in the north-central part of the state. The practice serves a large area, which includes 3 smaller communities in the county, and several areas in bordering counties. Spencer is located on Highways 281 and 12 and has a stable business district. A 4000 sq. ft. veterinary clinic was completed and became operational in March of 1996. This facility has a large, attractive retail area, a small animal exam room, a separate small animal surgery room, an enclosed kennel room, a herd prep/storage room, and a large lab/small animal treatment room. 1400 sq. ft. of this facility is the enclosed large animal exam and treatment area where OB work, semen testing, and herd work on smaller numbers of cattle is performed. Immediately outside the large animal room is 2400 sq. ft. of pens and a sweep tub. The old veterinary clinic has been remodeled and converted into a neonatal calf intensive care facility. The practice is primarily supported by cow/calf and backgrounding operations, but does service several sizeable feedlots and moderately sized dairies. Routine equine work is performed. The potential to significantly grow this part of the practice is available for the right individual, and will be supported by the practice owner. Small animal work comprises 22% of the practice’s service income and could also grow with the addition of new services. The practice is currently operated by two veterinarians, two full-time staff, and three part-time staff. Practice equipment includes a reproductive ultrasound machine, portable radiograph machine, automatic film processor, hydraulic chute with scale, portable hydraulic and portable manual squeeze chutes, a gas anesthesia machine, and an ultrasonic dental unit. Starting salary for this position will be competitive. Benefits will include medical and liability insurance, payment of AVMA dues, NE and SD licensing fees, continuing education reimbursement, and two weeks paid vacation.
