The Department of Pathobiology and Diagnostic Investigation (PDI) in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Michigan State University invites applications and nominations for the position of chairperson. The department is seeking an effective academic and administrative leader who is passionate about fostering excellence in research, teaching, and diagnostic service. The department currently consists of 26 faculty members representing the biomedical disciplines of anatomic and clinical pathology, anatomy, endocrinology, microbiology, immunology, neurobiology, and toxicology. The departmental faculty members collaborate extensively with clinical and basic research scientists in the CVM and throughout the MSU campus including those in the other two medical schools and in specialized research centers on campus such as the Center for Integrative Toxicology and the Center for Microbial Ecology. The faculty have significant extramural research funding through the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Unites States Department of Agriculture, national foundations/associations, and private industries. Many faculty members also contribute substantially to the mission of the Diagnostic Center for Population and Animal Health (http://animalhealth.msu.edu/), a stat-of-the-art veterinary diagnostic laboratory located on the MSU campus. The department has one of the largest veterinary pathology resident training programs in the country, supported by an NIH program grant for the graduate training of veterinarians. Candidates must have a DVM (or equivalent degree) and/or PhD. Board certification in a relevant specialty is desirable. Applicants should have an excellent academic record commensurate with a tenured professor-level position. Outstanding administrative, management, communication, and innovative leadership skills are also required. Salary and appointment: the position is a full-time annual appointment in the tenure system. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
