The University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine at Urbana-Champaign seeds an outstanding individual to serve as Director of the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL). The AAVLD accredited laboratory, which includes a zoo pathology service in Chicago, is a unique blend of public service, teaching and research that serves both the citizens of the state and the university research and teaching communities. The VDL utilizes the latest technology derived from research activities at the University in providing full-service, all-species diagnostic assistance to practicing veterinarians. The VDL also teaches graduate students and veterinary students diagnostic methods, and supports the research community of the college and university with its laboratory services. Candidates must possess a DVM or equivalent degree, advanced training (graduate degree or board certification), and experience in diagnostic veterinary medicine. The candidate must have demonstrated skill in organizational and administrative functions. Essential attributes should include a record of fiscal responsibility and personnel management and a background indicating initiative and leadership in the practice of laboratory medicine with a commitment to service, teaching, and research. Candidates should have a visionary approach to the development and implementation of state-of-the-art programs. Good communication skills are required in order to maintain liaison and working relationships with regulatory agencies, state diagnostic laboratories, practicing veterinarians, livestock producers, animal owners and their constituent organizations, and various campus officials. This position is a full-time, twelve-month appointment in the tenure or clinical track with the rank of associate or full professor. The Director reports to the Dean and serves on the Dean's Advisory Council and works closely with the department heads and the director of the veterinary teaching hospital. Salary is negotiable.
