A postdoctoral position is available August 1, 2008 in the Department of Population Health at the Poultry Diagnostic Research Center at the University of Georgia, Athens. We are looking for a highly motivated person with interests in avian virology, three years experience in molecular virology and working with poultry in experimental settings. The candidate must have demonstrated critical analysis as evidenced by research publications in peer reviewed journals and the ability to work well in a team-based environment. Research projects will involve the establishment of experimental vaccines to provide protection against enteric viral diseases of poultry. Experiments will be performed using an established challenge model in young chickens. In addition, the work will include the analysis of a data base established by the 454 technology. Hy-Line International is a primary breeding company located in West Des Moines, Iowa that is a leading supplier of layer chicken genetics to over 110 countries worldwide. We have an immediate opening for a Technical Services Veterinarian who would provide technical service in the areas of management, veterinary and nutrition for North American and international customers and for general support of the company's research and production departments through the routine monitoring of disease status of flocks, auditing biosecurity procedures, flock inspections and by providing health documentation to meet breeder chick export requirements. Position Responsibilities: a.. Sign routine export papers for Hy-Line International and Hy-Vac SPF egg supplier b.. Monitor changes in foreign country import requirements and OIE regulations and ensure compliance c.. Conduct monthly breeder flock inspections d.. Respond to requests for technical assistance from Hy-Line North America e.. Travel internationally to provide technical services to customers, make presentations at technical meetings, conduct technical seminars and regional technical schools f.. Assist in writing breeder and commercial layer management guides g.. Work with a world-wide team of veterinary, management, hatchery and nutritional consultants h.. Provide communication between Hy-Line International and state, federal and academic veterinarians i.. Interact with other primary breeder veterinarians on common issues through APPBV (Association of Poultry Primary Breeder Veterinarians j.. Attend poultry technical meetings (AVMA and others) to stay current with the latest research and industry developments and trends k.. Interpret serology and bacteriology results from the Internal Veterinary Services laboratory l.. Develop preventive health care programs for commercial poultry and breeder flocks m.. Perform postmortem exams for production, research, Hy-Line North America and customers to monitor health status of flocks n.. Maintain USDA import permits needed to receive foreign samples o..
