HISTORY

The first Department of Physiology and Veterinary Medicine was organized in 1888 with the establishment of the Kansas Agricultural Experiment Station. In 1919 the veterinary curriculum separated from the Division of Agriculture, creating the Division of Veterinary Medicine, which consisted of three departments: Anatomy and Physiology, Pathology, and Surgery and Medicine. In 1942 the Division of Veterinary Medicine was designated a School of Veterinary Medicine with the same three departments. In 1944 the Department of Anatomy and Physiology separated into two departments; the Department of Anatomy and the Department of Physiology. In 1968 the two Departments were merged to create the Department of Physiological Sciences and in 1976 once again was renamed Anatomy & Physiology.
