Dr. James D. Smith receives 1992 E.R. Frank Award

Dr. James D. Smith, (KSU DVM 1958) was the recipient of the E.R. Frank Award for 1992. It was presented to him at the Annual June Conference for Veterinarians on June 3, 1992.

The basis for the award is to honor those veterinarians who have contributed positively and significantly via long term service to the profession of veterinary medicine and KSU.

Dr. Smith has been very active as an equine practitioner with the firm of Hagyard-Davidson-McGee of Lexington, Ky. He is a consultant both nationally and internationally in equine medicine and surgery. He has also been active in organized veterinary medicine in special interests in Equine Practice Associations. A past member of Rotary International; Member, Fayette County Board of Education, 1968-72; Owner, Pegasus Stud (world's record price for yearlings in 1981), 1979-90;

Kentucky Harness Commission, 1981-92; Vice Chairman, Kentucky Equine Practitioners Infectious Disease Committee, 1984-91; Director, Kirk Horse Insurance Company, 1984-present; Chairman, Quality Assurance Program of the Association of Racing Commissioners International, from its inception, April 1988; Member, Jockey Club Medication Committee, 1988-present; Owner, Flat Tops and Cattle Company, Toponas, CO., 1989-present; Owner, New Era Station (horse, cattle, & sheep), Lexington, Ky, 1989-present; American Quarter Horse Association, Registry of Merit, 1989; PEW Award for Racing Commission, 1990; Vice President, Kentucky Equine Practitioners Association, 1992; Secretary-Treasurer, American Association of Equine Practitioners, 1992-Present. Dr. Smith is indeed a worthy recipient of the award.
