Awards K-State Veterinary Medical Alumni Association Recognition
Award to Dr. James Hall
he son of a K-State veterinary medicine graduate, Dr. Hall grew up around the animals his father treated in Elburn, Ill. This small rural town exposed him to both small and large animals. Dr. Hall received his bachelor’s degree in animal science and industry in 1979, a master’s in animal science in 1981 and his doctor of veterinary medicine degree in 1983, all from K-State. He practiced at the Hays Veterinary Hospital in Hays, Kan., for three years before going to work at Belcaro Animal Hospital in Denver, Colo. In 1989, he became part owner of the Hays Veterinary Hospital and returned there to work. After five years, Dr. Hall decided to look for a new facet of veterinary medicine. “I’d been in practice for 12 years and wanted to explore other options,” he said. He began working at Ft. Dodge Animal Health in Overland Park, Kan., in 1994 where he had a regulatory responsibility for the reporting and investigation of potential product-related adverse events. He reported findings not only to the company, but also to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). He also served as study coordinator on 12 different drug trials. Dr. Hall is now senior director of professional services and manages 10 veterinarians, seven technicians and seven support staff members. Hall also manages the Ft. Dodge professional services department regulatory compliance for the FDA, USDA and EPA. His primary area of interest is in food animal medicine. Regularly involved with technical training of the sales force, Dr. Hall conducts clinical field safety and efficacy trails to support existing Ft. Dodge Animal Health products and providing technical information to veterinarians and livestock producers. Dr. Hall is a member of the American Veterinary Association, Kansas Veterinary Medical Association, Academy of Veterinary Consultants, American Association of Bovine Practitioners, along with many others. He has also been very involved in the Veterinary Medical Alumni Association (VMAA) at K-State. He is a lifetime member of the K-State Pet Trust board of directors. “In professional services we focus on clinical veterinary medicine,” Dr. Hall said. “All the veterinarians in the department have special interests. We look at the clinical practice on a different level. We have the ability to look deeper into a problem and work with a veterinarian to find a solution.” “I am very honored,” Dr. Hall said of this recognition. “Someone once said that the most important recognition one can receive is recognition from your peers. Just working with my peers within the Veterinary Medical Alumni Association has been rewarding, and to be honored with this award is very humbling.”
