K-State CVM Faculty, Staff, and Student Registration
Parking is available on the west side
(off Denison Avenue) and on the east side (off Jardine Drive) of
the Veterinary Medical Complex. A parking permit is not required
for weekend parking. Do not park in the client parking or
reserved stalls as you may get ticketed.
The 17th Annual Equine Fall Conference will focus on areas of
equine veterinary medicine in which there have been recent
advances in the last 5 to 10 years. Topics will range from
reproduction, to common diseases of performance horses, to
geriatric equine medicine.

Laurie Beard,
DVM, MS, DACVIM
Associate Professor, Equine Internal Medicine
Dr. Beard earned her DVM in 1991 from Washington State University. She
then did an internship at the Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in
Lexington, KY. Dr. Beard completed both her residency in equine internal
medicine and her master’s degree at Ohio State University in 1995. Dr.
Beard worked as an associate professor at Ohio State for 6 years before
joining the K-State faculty as an associate clinical professor of equine
internal medicine.
Warren Beard,
DVM, MS, DACVS
Professor, Equine Surgery
Dr. Beard received his BS and DVM degrees from Texas A & M University
in 1981 and 1983 respectively. He entered private practice in Dickinson,
TX for two years before beginning a residency at Ohio State
University. He completed his surgical residency and received an MS
degree in Surgical Sciences in 1988. Following the residency he began a
clinical instructorship as the emergency surgeon at Ohio State
University for one year. Dr. Beard remained on faculty as an equine
surgeon for 14 more years as an assistant and in 1995 as an associate
professor before joining the K-State faculty in 2004.
Elizabeth Davis,
DVM, PhD, DACVIM
Assistant Professor and Section Head, Equine Medicine & Surgery
Dr. Elizabeth Davis received her DVM degree in 1996 from the University
of Florida. She completed both an internship and a residency at K-State
and is a 2002 ACVIM Large Animal Diplomate. Dr. Davis earned her PhD
from K-State in 2004 in Equine Innate Immunity and is currently an assistant
professor and section head of equine medicine and surgery.
Michelle Delco,
DVM, DACVS
Assistant Professor, Equine Surgery
Dr. Delco received her DVM degree from Cornell University. She completed
an internship at Rood and Riddle in Lexington, Kentucky then
moved to California to complete an equine surgery residency at UC-Davis.
Michelle joined the K-State faculty in 2006 as a clinical assistant professor
of equine surgery.
Shane DeWitt,
DVM, DACVIM
Assistant Professor, Equine Field Service
Dr. DeWitt received his DVM degree in 2000 from the Atlantic Veterinary
College in Charlottetown, PEI, Canada. Upon graduation, he entered
private practice in Pennsylvania, performing mainly equine service, but
working with all large animal species. In July of 2001, he began a threeyear
Internal Medicine residency at Tufts’ University in North Grafton, MA.
Currently he is an Assistant Professor in Equine Field Service at K-State.
Maria Ferrer,
DVM, MS, DACT
Clinical Assistant Professor, Theriogenology
Dr. Ferrer received her Veterinary Degree from the University of Buenos
Aires in 2000. In 2005, Maria completed her MS from Louisiana State and
became a Diplomate of the American Academy of Theriogenology. Maria
joined the K-State faculty in August of 2006 as a clinical assistant
professor of theriogenology
