Conference Objectives
The SCAAEP Annual Fall Conference will largely focus on diagnostic imaging with ultrasound and digital radiography. Ultrasound imaging of the abdomen, thorax, and tendons will be covered in depth. In addition, ultrasound imaging of “small body parts” will be covered including eyes, veins, and other various structures. Digital radiography will also be presented. And finally the newer alternative therapies will also be discussed including shock wave therapy and injection of stem cells for healing of tendon and ligament injuries. K-State equine and radiology faculty speakers will include Drs. Carolyn Arnold, Jim Lillich, and Laura Armbrust. The guest speaker will be Dr. Keith Chaffin from Texas A & M University.

Guest Speakers

Keith Chaffin, DVM, MS, DACVIM
Professor, Equine Medicine
Dr. Chaffin received his DVM from North Carolina State University in 1985. He then worked in private practice in Maryland for two years. Dr. Chaffin completed a residency in equine medicine and received his MS at Texas A&M in 1990. He achieved ACVIM board certification in 1991. Keith is currently a professor of medicine at Texas A&M University.

Laura Armbrust, DVM
Assistant Professor, Diagnostic Radiology
Dr. Armbrust is a 1996 graduate of Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She was in a mixed animal practice in Wisconsin for two years. She then completed a residency in Radiology at Kansas State University before joining the faculty at K-State in 2001.

Carolyn Arnold, DVM
Assistant Professor, Equine Surgery
Dr. Arnold received her DVM from Michigan State University in 1998. She then completed an internship at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital and a residency in Large Animal Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. Before coming to K-State, Dr. Arnold was a clinical instructor at the University of Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine. Carolyn joined the K-State faculty in 2003 as an assistant professor in equine surgery. Her primary area of research is in equine osteoarthritis and upper airway disease.

Jim Lillich, DVM, MS, DACVS
Associate Professor, Equine Orthopedics and General Surgery
Dr. Jim Lillich received his DVM from Colorado State University in 1991 followed by a one-year internship at Cornell University. Dr. Lillich completed a three-year residency and his MS degree in 1995 at The Ohio State University where he then joined the staff as a clinical instructor for one year. Jim joined the K-State faculty in 1996 and is currently an associate professor in equine orthopedics and general surgery.
