Objectives
Participants in this wet lab will be able to work with different
ultrasounds and determine what probe(s) and frequencies are most

Wet Lab Instructors
Terry L. Blanchard, DVM, DACT
Professor of Theriogenology, Texas A&M,
Large Animal Surgery and Medicine, College of Veterinary Medicine
Dr. Blanchard received his DVM degree in 1976 from Kansas State
University and his MS in 1983 from the University of Missouri. Terry’s
special interests include stallion fertility, including methods of
treatment and management to improve fertility. Other clinical interests
include mare infertility, and the foaling and postpartum mare. His
research interests involve diagnosis and treatment of stallion
infertility, including
testicular degeneration.
Elizabeth Davis, DVM,
MS
Clinical Instructor, Equine Internal
Medicine, KSU
Dr. Davis received her DVM degree in 1996 from the University of
Florida. She then completed an internship in 1997 at Kansas State
University and began a residency in equine internal medicine, which she
completed in 2000. Beth is currently working on her PhD in immunology of
the horse.
Andres Estrada, DVM
Resident, Equine Theriogenology, KSU
Dr. Estrada completed his veterinary studies in 1997 at Universidad de
La Salle Bogota, Columbia. He studied the German language and then
completed practical training in reproduction and embryo transfer at JCS
Veterinary Service in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Before
joining the KSU faculty in 2001, Andres completed two internships in the
field of equine reproduction.
Ann Goodrich
Technical Services, Universal Medical
Ms. Goodrich is an ultrasound technical consultant at Universal Medical.
Ann has 12 years experience in ultrasonography.
Juan C. Samper, DVM,
MS, PhD, DACT
Associate Professor, Equine
Theriogenology, KSU
Dr. Samper graduated from veterinary school in 1982 and after three
years of large animal practice in Colombia, he joined the theriogenology
graduate program at the University of Minnesota. During his residency at
Minnesota, he earned a Masters and a PhD degree in Theriogenology. His
research work focused primarily on semen cryopreservation and artificial
insemination of horses. Juan worked for a couple of breeding seasons at
the Swedish National Stud and in 1990 became a board-certified
theriogenologist. In 1990 he joined the Faculty at the Ontario
Veterinary College and after three years of academia he moved to
Vancouver, British Columbia where he started JCS Veterinary Reproductive
Services, his own practice. The practice comprised about 65% racehorses
TB's and STB's and 35% other breeds including sport horses. During his
time in British Columbia, Juan served as a first opinion and referral
center for the Pacific Northwest. Activities during the breeding season
included foaling and breeding management, artificial insemination with
fresh, shipped cooled and frozen semen and embryo transfer. Juan has
lectured and consulted extensively for several breeding farms in North
and South America as well as in Europe. He recently joined the faculty
as an associate professor at Kansas State University coordinating the
equine reproduction program of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Juan
has published extensively in refereed journals and has authored several
book chapters on artificial insemination and stallion physiology. Most
recently he published his book "Equine Breeding Management and
Artificial Insemination"
