Frick Auditorium, Mosier Hall, College of Veterinary Medicine, 1800 Denison, Manhattan, KS.
Frick Auditorium is located on the second floor of Mosier Hall. Enter at the Small
Animal Entrance. Signs will be posted to direct you to registration.
Parking
Parking is available on the west side (off Denison Avenue) and
on the east side (off Jardine Drive) of the Veterinary Medical Complex. A parking
permit is not required for weekend parking. Do not park
in the client parking or reserved stalls as you may get ticketed.
Objectives
This is an educational workshop that is designed to assist pet breeders in enhancing the health and well being of their dogs.
Timely information on critical aspects of canine reproduction and nutrition will be presented. There will also be a
discussion on common problems found in kennels and ways to prevent these problems.

Guest Speakers
Debra Duncan, JD
Ms. Duncan received her law degree from Washburn University in Topeka.
Debra is the Director of the Animal Facilities Inspection Program in the
Kansas Animal Health Department and has served in this capacity for the
past eight years. Prior to that, she worked for the Legislative Research
Department as a budget analyst.
Beverly Wofford, DVM
Dr. Wofford received her DVM degree in 1984 at Kansas State University.
She worked 6 years in a mixed animal practice in Omaha, Nebraska.
Beverly has spent the last 11 years with Hill’s Pet Nutrition as a
Consulting Veterinarian. Her current role is providing nutritional
education for veterinarians, technicians and support staff. Beverly also
presents nutritional training at several veterinary technician schools
throughout the
Midwest.
Robert Steven
Youngquist, DVM, ACT
Dr. Youngquist received his DVM degree from Iowa State University in
1971. He completed a residency in Theriogenology in 1974 and is
currently a Professor and Associate Chairman in Veterinary Medicine and
Surgery at the University of Missouri-Columbia.
USDA Speakers
Ruth Bakker, DVM
Dr. Bakker received her DVM degree from Iowa Sate University in 1984.
She practiced in Davenport, IA in a small animal/exotic practice for
three years and in Louisville, KY in a mixed animal practice for 4
years. Ruth has served as a Veterinary Medical Officer with the USDA
since 1991.
Robert Gibbens, DVM
Dr. Gibbens received his DVM degree from Oklahoma State University in
1980. He was then in private practice for six years. Robert joined the
USDA in 1990 and has served as a Veterinary Medical Officer and a
Supervisory Animal Care Specialist. He is currently the Western Region
Director.
Curt McGruder
Mr. McGruder currently resides in southeast Missouri. He attended Three
Rivers Community College and Southeast Missouri State University. He
maintains a beef cattle operation on the family farm with his wife and
daughter. Curt has been employed with USDA since 1990 and has held his
current position as an animal care inspector since January 2001.
Cathy Niebruegge
Ms. Niebruegge currently resides in Atoka, Oklahoma. She received her
Bachelor of Science degree from Southwestern State University at
Weatherford, OK. Cathy has worked for the USDA the past 10 years as an
Animal Care Inspector in the states of Nebraska and Oklahoma.
Ed Slauter, DVM
Dr. Slauter received his DVM degree from Iowa State University in 1972.
Ed has been working in the USDA Animal Care program for the past 12½
years as a Veterinary Medical officer in Missouri. His area was extended
to include Kansas two years ago.
