Parking
The Campus Parking Department requires a parking permit. This permit
will be sent to you upon receipt of your registration. Please make sure to hang the
permit on your rearview mirror. Parking is available on the west side (off Denison Avenue)
and on the east side (off McCain Lane) of the Veterinary Medical Complex. Do not park in the client parking or reserved stalls as you could get ticketed.
Videotaping Policy
Our College policy prohibits the videotaping and audio taping of
conference presentations.
Veterinary Medical Library
The Veterinary Medical Library will be open from 8:00 a.m. to
6:00 p.m. Monday - Friday during the Conference. Displays will include yearbooks for the
reunion classes, materials related to the conference theme "Variety is the Spice of
Veterinary Medicine", and extensive materials on animals in society. Gayle Willard,
Mary Girard, and Cindy Logan will be available to consult with you about individual
information needs, to search databases, find journal articles, or explore the world wide
web. For your convenience, food and drinks ARE permitted in the library. Come visit us on

The Board of Veterinary Examiners
Dr. Dirk Hanson and representatives from the Board of Veterinary
Examiners will be available to answer questions Monday, June 5 and Tuesday, June 6. Their

Area Accommodations
We advise you to make your room reservations as soon as possible
as rooms are limited in Manhattan and blocks are reserved on a room availability,
first-come first-served basis.
KVMA Vaccination Clinic
Rabies and Tetanus vaccine will be available for those desiring vaccination.
Concerning rabies vaccination, the current ACIP recommendations state that serological
titers should be performed in lieu of routine boosters for persons previously immunized
with a tissue culture (human diploid cell) rabies vaccine. A booster is recommended for
persons with a rabies titer of less than 1:5.
Concerning tetanus vaccination, the current recommendation is to have a booster every 10
years.
A nurse from the Kansas State University Lafene Health Center will be available Monday,
June 5 from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m.; Tuesday, June 6 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.; and Wednesday,
June 7 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. in Trotter Hall Room 2 to administer rabies and tetanus
vaccines. Intramuscular rabies vaccination will be $90.00 per dose and tetanus will be $12.50.
The Rabies Laboratory will make every effort to have titer results available on Wednesday
for persons having blood drawn by 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 5.

Kansas Christian Veterinary
Fellowship Breakfast
Tuesday, June 6 at 7:00 a.m. in Trotter Hall Room 301. All conference
participants are invited to attend. Get your coffee and donuts in Room 2 and then join us
in Room 301 for fellowship and guest speaker! Dr. Sanderson is coordinating this breakfast.
Alumni Class Reunions

Five Year Class Reunions will be held in Manhattan on Friday evening June 2nd through
Sunday, June 4th. Confirmed classes planning a reunion include the Classes of 1950, 1955,
1960, 1965, 1970, 1985, 1990, and 1995.

College and campus tours will be available at 9:00 am and at 10:00 am
on Saturday, June 3. An additional tour of the Veterinary Medical Complex will be
available Sunday, June 4, at 2 pm. All tours will begin at Trotter Hall, first floor
foyer.

The winners of the E.R. Frank and Distinguished Alumnus Awards will
be presented at the College Kick-Off Reception on Sunday, June 4.

The KSU Veterinary Medical Alumni Association Annual Business meeting
will be held later that evening.
KVMA Wellness Screening Phlebotomists from Peterson Clinical Laboratory will be available in Trotter Hall
Room 2 on Monday, June 5 from 6:30 to 10:30 a.m. and Tuesday, June 6 from 6:30 to 10:30
a.m. to collect specimens for Comprehensive Panel, Brucella Titer, and/or Prostate
Specific Antigen. A blood sample for a rabies titer may also be collected for testing at
the KSU Rabies Laboratory. Samples collected on Monday morning may have results available
Wednesday morning.

For accurate results, conference participants who
wish to have the chemistry profile done, should fast for 12 hours prior to the time of testing.
Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) test at a charge of $25.00 will also
be available. Rabies titers are $13.00 each and Brucella titers are $20.00 each.
Checks can be made payable to Peterson Clinical Laboratory, PA, for
all testing and/or vaccinations received.
Each participant will receive the results of their Comprehensive
Panel and brucella titer via a self-addressed envelope a few days following the completion
of the conference. Results of the rabies titer collected after Monday morning will be
mailed to the participants by the Diagnostic Laboratory after the conference.

Scholarship Golf Tournament
The 6th Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament will be Monday, June 5 at Colbert Hills Golf Course in Manhattan. An 11:30 a.m.
start is planned. Limited to the first 50 registrants.
Colbert Hills was designed by PGA Professional Jim Colbert and
course architect Jeff Brauer. This course will provide a unique golfing experience in the
natural beauty of the Flint Hills. Colbert Hills is the first PGA tour licensed collegiate
golf course in the country and will be the home of the K-State golf teams.
Prizes will be awarded. Enough time will be allowed to return for
the conference evening activities. If you are interested in participating, contact Cheri

Victor Cortese
PhD, DVM, Diplomate ABVP
Dr. Cortese graduated from Michigan State University. He was part of a predominantly dairy
practice in Wisconsin and an adjunct professor with the University of Wisconsin-Madison,
College of Veterinary Medicine. In 1989, he joined Diamond Scientific in their technical
services department. In June 1990 he moved to SmithKline Beecham Animal Health (now Pfizer
Animal Health) as a senior technical services veterinarian, with the main emphasis on
dairy and its allied sectors. Dr. Cortese currently holds the title of Director Technical
Services - Cattle. |
Debra Horwitz
DVM, Diplomate ACVB
Dr. Horwitz received her DVM from Michigan State University. She is a diplomate of the
American College of Veterinary Behaviorists. Dr. Horwitz has had a referral practice for
behavioral problems in companion animals since 1982. Her behavioral practice is located in
St. Louis and is affiliated with Associated Veterinary Specialists, a veterinary referral
facility. She appears locally and nationally on both radio and television as well as in
local print publications and lectures. |
Ray Dillon
DVM, MS, Diplomate ACVIM
Dr. Dillon, Professor of Small Animal Surgery and Medicine, received his DVM from Texas
A&M University in 1973 (Magma Cum Laude). He was an intern and clinical resident at
Auburn University earning his MS in Internal Medicine in 1977. He was board certified in
the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in 1978. Dr. Dillon was the first
recipient and continues to hold the Jack O. Rash Chair in Internal Medicine at Auburn
University. He was Chair of the Section of Medicine for 18 years and was Interim Director
of the Scott-Ritchey Research Center. |
Steve Wikse
DVM, Diplomate ACVP
Dr. Wikse has been a beef cow/calf production clinician in the
Department of Large Animal Medicine and Surgery, Texas A&M University for the past 12
years. He has spent most of his career as a clinician, about equal time in private
practice and academia. He owned a 2-person mixed animal practice in northern California
for 8 years. Dr. Wikses specialty as an academic clinician is consultation on beef
herd management and investigation of beef herd production or disease problems. |
Greg Grauer DVM, MS, Diplomate ACVIM
Dr. Grauer received his DVM from Iowa State University in 1978. He completed an internship
and residency at Colorado State University, was on the faculty at the University of
Wisconsin, and then returned to Colorado State University in 1989 as an Associate
Professor of Medicine. Since 1996, Greg has been a Professor and Section Chief, Small
Animal Medicine and Critical Care at Colorado State University. Beginning June 1, 2000,
Dr. Grauer will become the Department Head of Clinical Sciences at Kansas State University! Welcome, Dr. Grauer! |

Dollars for Scholars Annual
Auction to Benefit Scholarships
Sponsored by the College of Veterinary Medicine and the KVMA Auxiliary
The auction will be held the evening of Monday, June 5
during the Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine 62nd Annual Conference
for Veterinarians. A bar-b-que will start at 6:00 p.m. at the College and the auction will
begin approximately at 7:00 p.m.
