Key Note Speaker
Bill Snyder
Head Football Coach, KSU
In 1998 Bill Snyder was recognized as the National Coach
of the Year by the Associated Press, the Walter Camp Football Foundation, and was awarded
the Bear Bryant Award and the Bobby Dodd Foundation Award as the coach of the year. Coach
Snyder was selected by the Associated Press as the Big Eight Coach of the Year three times
(1990, 91 and 93), joining Bob Devaney as the only two men in Big Eight
history to be named Coach of the Year three times in a four-year period. In 1991 he was
named National Coach of the Year by ESPN. In 1994 he was named, by other coaches, as the
USA-Today CNN National Coach of the Year.

Gary Rupp, DVM
University of Nebraska Great Plains Veterinary Educational Center, Clay Center, NE
Dr. Rupp is currently the Director of the University of
Nebraska Great Plains Veterinary Educational Center. His primary area of interest is in
beef cattle production, management and health. He received his DVM and MS in Nutrition
from Colorado State University, was in private practice for eight years and taught at the
University of California-Davis, Colorado State University, and Texas A&M before moving
to Nebraska.
Danny Scott, DVM, DACVD
Department of Clinical Sciences, Cornell University
Dr. Scott is Professor of Medicine and Co-Chief of the
Dermatology Service at Cornell University. He is active in clinical and classroom
teaching, training of residents in dermatology and pathology, clinical research,
diagnostic dermatopathology, and consultation service for area practitioners. Dr. Scott is
author or co-author of over 450 scientific publications.
Todd Tams, DVM, DACVIM
Veterinary Centers of America, West Los Angeles
Dr. Tams received his DVM from The Ohio State University
in 1977. He completed an internship at West Los Angeles Veterinary Medical Group in 1979.
In 1981 he completed a residency in internal medicine at Colorado State University. Dr.
Tams is board certified in internal medicine. He is currently the chief medical officer
for Veterinary Centers of America and staff internist at the VCA West Los Angeles Animal
Hospital.
James F. Wilson, DVM, JD
Priority Veterinary Management Consultants, Yardley, PA
Dr. Wilson teaches veterinary law, ethics, and practice
management at 7-10 veterinary schools and approximately a dozen local, state, national,
and international veterinary association meetings each year. In 1996 Dr. Wilsons
teaching efforts were recognized when he received the national Student AVMAs
prestigious "Teacher of the Year Award" for teaching in the clinical science
curriculum - the first time the award ever has been given to someone teaching veterinary
law, ethics, business management, and personal development. Dr. Wilson has authored three
books: Law and Ethics of the Veterinary Profession, Veterinary Receptionists
Training Manual, and Legal Consent Forms for Veterinary Practices.

Dennis T. (Tim) Crowe, Jr., DVM, DACVS, DACVECC,
NREMT-PI
Carson-Tahoe Veterinary Hospital and Georgia Veterinary Specialists
Dr. Crowe was a partner and Chief of Surgery at the
Veterinary Institute of Trauma, Emergency and Critical Care and was the Director of
Research at the Animal Emergency Center and Referral Services in Milwaukee, WI
(1991-1997). Currently he is surgeon and director of an emergency and critical care
resident at Carson-Tahoe Veterinary Hospital; surgeon and director of a surgical resident
at Carson-Tahoe Veterinary Hospital; and surgeon and chief of emergency/critical care
services (part-time) at Georgia Veterinary Specialties. He is the author of over 500
publications on emergency and critical care topics; is an inventor and developer of many
procedures used in the field of emergency and critical care medicine and surgery. Dr.
Crowe is acclaimed worldwide as a leader in emergency and trauma surgery.
Jennifer Devey, DVM, DACVECC
Michigan Veterinary Specialists, Southfield, MI
Dr. Devey is currently employed at Michigan Veterinary
Specialists in Southfield, MI as director of intensive care and emergency services, and
director of interns in a 24-doctor, 24-hour referral practice. She was previously employed
as director of intensive care and emergency services at SouthPaws Veterinary Referral
Center, Springfield, VA, director of emergency services at Allpets Clinic in Boulder and
staff veterinarian at the Vancouver Animal Emergency Clinic in Vancouver, British
Columbia, Canada.
Heather Hamil
Cook Veterinary Products
Heather has been the Western Technical Representative for
Cook Veterinary Products for the past 2 years. She has her Bachelors Degree in
Animal Science/Pre-Veterinary Medicine.
KSU Faculty Speakers
Alberto Broce, PhD
Department of Entomology
Dr. Broce received his PhD in entomology at the University
of Florida. He has worked in Mexico, Johnson Space Center, and Texas A&M. Currently he
is a Professor in the Department of Entomology and teaches livestock entomology. His
research interests are with flies of veterinary medical importance and with cat fleas.
Michael Brouk, MS, PhD
Department of Animal Sciences and Industry
Dr. Brouk recently joined the faculty at Kansas State
University as an Assistant Professor, Extension Diary Specialist. After receiving his PhD
in dairy nutrition from South Dakota State University, he worked with commercial
agricultural programs at the University of Missouri. His area of interest is dairy cattle
nutrition and management.
Thomas R. (Robin) Falkner, DVM
Department of Animal Sciences and Industry
Dr. Falkner is an Assistant Extension Beef Veterinarian at
Kansas State University and is pursuing a PhD. He received his DVM from Mississippi State
University. His areas of interest include beef feeder calf receiving and health,
nutrition-health interaction, identifying alternatives to antimicrobials for use in food
producing animals, stocker cattle health and management, and the integration of food
safety / quality assurance at the farm level.
Jerry Jaax, DVM, DACLAM
University Research Compliance Officer and University Veterinarian
Dr. Jaax (KSU 72) is board certified in Laboratory
Animal Medicine (ACLAM). He had been selected and appointed as Consultant to the Surgeon
General for his veterinary specialties in Department of Defense. Jerry and his wife, Nancy
(KSU 73), are central characters in the best seller, The Hot Zone, (Richard Preston,
Random House, September 1994). During the outbreak of the Ebola virus in the Reston, VA
monkey facility in December 1989, Col. Jerry Jaax was the leader of the team of soldiers
and scientists who worked around the clock to manage and contain the outbreak. Col. Nancy
Jaax was a key player in the diagnosis, study, and management of the overall outbreak. Dr.
Jerry Jaax has retired from the US Army and is now with Kansas State University.
