The 2007 AWV Student Scholarship award recipients were:

Kate Sheffield Freeman, class of 2008, North Carolina State University

Ms. Freeman would like to become a leader in the field of aquatic medicine. In pursuit of this goal, she has completed specialized coursework and volunteered with numerous animal community and conservation service organizations. Along with active participation outside of veterinary school, Ms. Freeman serves as a leader for many student clubs. The AWVF scholarship for Ms. Freeman was financed by Fort Dodge Animal Health.

L. Tiffany Reed, class of 2008, University of Georgia

As student who has taken ownership of the AVMA directive, One Medicine, Ms. Reed will pursue anatomic pathology in order to improve diagnostics and public health for veterinary and human medicine. In matters of public policy, she worked in the AVMA Governmental Relations Division to lobby for more funding to help animals during emergency evacuation procedures. Ms. Reed serves as President of SCAVMA and participated in the Cornell Leadership Program for Veterinary Students. Boehringer-Ingelheim Vetmedica provided the funds for Ms. Reed's AWVF scholarship.

Gwendolen Reyes-Illg, class of 2008, University of Florida

A veterinary student and an animal rights activist, Ms. Reyes-Illg transfers her beliefs and convictions into positive and constructive action. For example, as Willed Body Volunteer Coordinator, she secured a fellowship and worked with faculty members to obtain anatomy cadavers from terminally ill equids euthanized for humane or medical reasons. Ms. Reyes-Illg is also self employed as a licensed massage therapist. Amber Whitehurst from Nutramax Labs presented the AWVF scholarship to Ms. Reyes-Illg on May 7, 2007.

Laura Stokes-Greene, class of 2008, The Ohio State University

As President of her class, Ms. Stokes-Greene resolves conflicts and acts as a diplomatic liaison between students and administration. She has participated in a number of research projects and externships including work with rhinoceros. Ms. Stokes-Greene would like to pursue additional training with equine and perhaps endangered species. On June 9, 2007, Dr. Jack Walkenhorst from VCA Animal Hospitals and the VCA student representative, Cassie Kartz presented Ms. Stokes-Green her AWVF scholarship.
